Ringtones & Sounds

Tech Fun · Sound lab

Make your alerts recognizable, useful and unmistakably yours.

Explore sound styles, build a calmer notification routine and learn where to change ringtone and alert settings on common phones.

A good alert is easy to recognize without being unnecessarily loud or distracting. Consider the places you use your phone, how often notifications arrive and whether different sounds help you distinguish calls, messages and reminders.

🎵

Classic & minimal

Short, clear tones are easy to recognize and may be less intrusive in shared spaces. Choose a sound that remains audible at a sensible volume without being startling.

🪐

Digital & futuristic

Electronic pulses and synthesized tones create a distinctive style. Keep alerts short and avoid sounds that resemble emergency signals or important public warnings.

🌿

Calm & nature-inspired

Soft chimes and gentle ambient sounds can work well for reminders and alarms. Test them at the volume and environment where you will actually use them.

How to change your phone’s sounds

iPhone

Open Settings → Sounds & Haptics and select the alert category you want to adjust. Available tones depend on the operating-system version and the type of alert.

Samsung Galaxy

Open Settings → Sounds and vibration, then look for ringtone, notification sound or system sound options. Menu names may vary by One UI version and carrier.

Google Pixel & other Android

Open Settings → Sound & vibration and look for Phone ringtone or Default notification sound. Some apps also offer their own notification categories and sound controls.

Choose sounds with intention

  • Use distinct but consistent sounds for calls and high-priority alerts.
  • Turn off noisy notifications from apps that do not need immediate attention.
  • Use vibration, visual alerts or accessibility features if audio is not the best signal for you.
  • Consider Do Not Disturb or Focus schedules for sleep, study and meetings.
  • Check whether custom audio must be imported, trimmed or converted to a supported format.

A 10-minute notification reset

Review your five noisiest apps. Keep essential notifications, mute low-value alerts and select one call tone that you can recognize in a shared environment. Test the new setup for a few days, then adjust based on what you actually miss.
